The EDSL Group manufactures a wide variety of vision panels within our range of doorsets. Our vision panel range can be applied to almost any situation and can be used with doorsets, with or without a fire rating. Additionally, we offer a full selection of glass types based on integrity and acoustics.
Fire doors are often made without glass panels, which can create a dull environment. We offer the option to install a fire-safe vision panel in our NFR, FD30, and FD60 fire doors, with an almost endless choice of designs. Below are the most popular styles, but other designs can be accommodated.
To satisfy Approved Document M and BS 8300, vision panels must be included in doors and side panels wider than 450mm, providing a visibility zone between 500mm and 1500mm above the finished floor level.
BS 8300 allows interruptions within the visibility zone to provide strength within the doorset and side screen or to accommodate door furniture, as long as the maximum obstruction does not exceed 350mm. The legislation also stipulates that any individual vision panel must be at least 100mm wide.
To ensure clients always receive the specified quality and performance, all our doorsets are factory glazed. All styles of beading must be made from hardwood, which can be either fully polished or painted to match the door's finish.
Glass in fire-rated doorsets can come in multiple configurations: wired or unwired glass, clear or obscured glass, and insulated or uninsulated glass. If your project requires a bespoke style of glazing bead, we can accommodate this request. Please contact a member of our technical team who will help turn your idea into reality.
For our flush doorset offer, EDSL can integrate VISTAMATIC® vision panels. VISTAMATIC® is the world’s leading manufacturer of glazed secure vision panels and is dedicated to the continued research and development of manual vision access control systems. VISTAMATIC® combines innovation with British manufacturing to create unique products suited to a wide range of specifications. Special decorative effects such as acid etching, sand blasting, contrasting coloured, textured and bevelled glass are also available. Bevelled glass is normally to one side only. Please note that in some instances the "special decorative" effects may not be possible due to compromising the fire rating.
Please note that FD30 and FD60 glazing beads should be manufactured from timbers that have a minimum density of 640kg/m3.
For fire-rated glazed doors, consider our Plant-On Glazing Bars. For non-fire or fire-rated doorsets, either the Through Glazing Bars can be used.
Please note that FD30 and FD60 glazing beads should be manufactured from timbers with a minimum density of 640kg/m³.

Fire
We are experienced suppliers, manufacturers, and installation specialists of fire doors. We supply, manufacture, and install both interior and exterior fire doors for a wide variety of commercial and residential projects, large and small, throughout the UK. All our fire doorsets and frames are custom-designed to meet your specific requirements, available in a range of finishes to suit your preference, and are certified to FD30, FD60, FD90, and FD120 standards. For further customisation, our doors can incorporate any of our standard or bespoke glazed vision panel sets, offering a variety of styles and finishes ideal for residential properties, offices, and hospitals.
Fireproof doors serve two primary functions during a fire: first, to contain flames and smoke, allowing safe passage away from the building by acting as a barrier and isolating the fire from escape routes; and second, to delay the spread of flames and smoke, ensuring adequate time to reach the exit point depending on the specific requirement of the building area.
We are the preferred and trusted supplier to many large construction companies, as well as direct suppliers to architects and interior designers. Our commitment to quality and fire door development provides these esteemed construction names with the peace of mind they need. Our work ethic sets us apart from the competition, as we continually strive to improve service, value engineering, and research into fire-resistant door technology. All our fire doors are manufactured to comply with Certifire regulations and come with an anti-tamper label displaying compliance, assuring our customers of their fitness for purpose.
Acoustic
Elite Doors, expert manufacturers of acoustic doors, offer a wide range of doors with excellent soundproof features. We design, manufacture, and install doors throughout the UK. Our acoustic doors are tested to ISO standards and achieve an average sound reduction of up to 43dB (decibels). The industry continues to test new products to further increase sound reduction within timber doors.
Our acoustic doors are suitable for a wide range of projects, including schools, hospitals, factories, airports, theatres, hotels, and heavy engineering operations. Working with industry leaders such as Norsound enables us to offer a comprehensive range of doors to suit every acoustic need and budget. Manufacturing our own doors allows us to add superior soundproofing features, such as seals around the frame to prevent sound penetration and vision panels with excellent acoustic properties that allow light through. Our in-house manufacturing flexibility is one reason we are one of the UK's leaders in the door industry.
Security
We take security seriously, which is why all our security doors are PAS23 and PAS24 accredited, providing complete reassurance and peace of mind that your property is protected. These standards have proven to reduce crime risk by up to 75% by combining minimum physical security standards with well-tested components. Our experience in architectural ironmongery allows us to install custom security features tailored to your specific requirements. As expert manufacturers, we adapt our security doors to meet customer needs cost-effectively. We supply single and double doors, door and screen combinations, communal doors with access control, fire exit doors, and flat entrance doors. To meet fire safety regulations, these can be NFR, FD30s, or FD60s, ensuring appropriate fire resistance. For areas requiring soundproofing, we can manufacture doors with acoustic properties, significantly reducing sound reverberation.
A poorly manufactured or installed frame can compromise the integrity and security of a door. We design and manufacture our frames to protect, eliminating structural weaknesses and potential areas where the door could be prised open, thereby increasing the effectiveness of our security doors.
Hygienic
Our comprehensive range of hygienic doors is designed for environments where ultimate hygiene is crucial. The high quality and efficiency of our hygienic doors make them the first choice for industries such as pharmaceutical companies, medical and healthcare facilities, and industries that need to comply with food hygiene regulations.
Every component of our hygienic doors, from the core to the frame and hinges, is specially designed to ensure the highest levels of hygiene. The facing materials, such as GRP and polyethylene, are easy to clean and resistant to harmful agents and bacteria, making them perfect for hospitals and healthcare facilities where reducing the spread of bacteria is essential. Our hygienic doors can seamlessly integrate with our traditional door sets, offering innovative optional extras such as post-formed vertical edges to the door leaves, frame, and architrave. This provides a modern, maintenance-free finish. Our hygienic doors are also available lead-lined for use around potential radiation while maintaining a low level of bacteria. Available configurations include bi-folding, single swing, double swing, and sliding varieties, all with automatic opening functionality.
X-Ray
Our X-Ray doors feature a robust timber leaf with lead lining to ensure protection. They can be decorated with a variety of wood veneers, laminates, or paints to match the room's style and other standard doors. Due to their weight, these doors are hung in a rebated hardwood frame with a bespoke section of 64mm. Radiation-proof vision panels up to 500mm x 200mm are available when a window option is preferred. These specialist windows are fixed with hardwood beading and factory-fitted with relevant fire seals, depending on integrity. Currently, our X-Ray doors are not available in a fire-rated option.
Our X-Ray doors are available in a wide variety of styles and specifications to meet radiation protection standards. Safety is paramount, especially when installing an X-Ray door. Incorrect installation can render the area unsafe and the door ineffective.
Please note that the minimum order quantity for X-Ray doorsets is five.
For any enquiries or bespoke requirements, please get in touch with our team.
Hardwoods
We offer a wide selection of hardwood timbers available in a variety of finishes, such as oil, lacquer, and stains in varying sheen levels, or primed for on-site top-coats.
Please note that for FD30 and FD60 doorsets, the timber must have a minimum density of 510kg/m3. Some timbers, such as ash and beech, though dense, are not suitable for FD60 applications. For further advice or samples, please get in touch. Additionally, glazing beads should be manufactured from timbers with a minimum density of 640kg/m3.
Veneers
Our range of hardwood veneers also comes in various finishes, including oil, lacquer, and stains with different sheen levels. Our laminated doors offer a selection of hard-wearing and easy-to-clean heavy-duty options, complete with a choice of softwood or hardwood frames.

Crown Cut
The log is cut in half, and the half log or flitch is then sliced straight across, parallel to a line through the centre of the log and tangential to the growth rings. This generally produces a veneer with a central area of strong figurative grain and a more linear effect at each edge.
QUARTER CUT
The log is cut in quarters, and each quarter flitch is then straight sliced, approximately at right angles to the growth rings. This generally produces a veneer with a relatively uniform linear vertical grain.
ROTARY CUT
The log is mounted centrally in a lathe and sliced around the circumference, following the annual growth rings; this gives a bold variegated grain, and enables very wide leaves to be produced. Continuous rotary slicing is also used for plywood and constructional veneers.
BOOK MATCHING
This traditional method of matching is achieved by taking successive leaves of veneer and reversing alternate leaves so as to bring corresponding opposite edges together in a mirrored effect. This produces a symmetrical balanced pattern of grain and figure.
RANDOM MATCHING
Veneers of the same species, but not necessarily from the same log, are deliberately mixed to produce an overall random grain effect. Butt or end grain jointing may be introduced in some leaves to add to the planking effect.
SLIP MATCHING
Successive leaves are taken from the same stock or flitch of veneer and jointed without turning alternate leaves over as in book matching. This produces a repeat pattern which varies gradually across the panel. This method is usually most effective when straight grain veneers are used.
Door handing is determined by the hinge position when viewed from the pull side of the door.
If the hinges are on the right, it is a right-hand door. If the hinges are on the left, it is a left-hand door. To avoid confusion, it’s always a good idea to send us accurate floor plans that illustrate the door swings.
